Background
About Me
Senior Software Engineer, cloud infrastructure builder, and aspiring tech leader. Currently pursuing dual degree of MBA + MSE at Carnegie Mellon University.
Who I am
My Story
I'm Xusheng "Fred" Liu — born and raised in Beijing, China, and shaped by a career that has taken me across three cities and two continents. I came to the U.S. for college, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with double major in Computer Science and Mathematics at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, before joining Citrix full-time.
I spent my first three years post-graduation at Citrix's headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, building cloud-native SaaS products across Azure, AWS, and GCP — from Infrastructure as Code tooling to FedRAMP compliance. In 2024 I relocated to Citrix's engineering branch in Nanjing, China, where I continue leading the same products while bridging U.S. and China engineering teams across time zones, languages, and working cultures.
This path has given me something I consider a genuine edge: fluency in cross-cultural collaboration. I'm equally at home running a technical design review in English with a U.S. product team and coordinating a sprint in Mandarin with a China-based engineering crew. I've learned that building high-trust relationships across cultures requires more than language — it takes empathy, patience, and an instinct for when to adapt and when to hold the line on engineering standards.
In August 2026 I'm starting my dual degree program MBA + Master of Software Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University — combining business strategy at Tepper with advanced engineering at the School of Computer Science.
Outside work I enjoy exploring AI tooling, contributing to open-source, and exploring the world. See what I get up to on my Blog page.
